Balthazar

Balthazar is a Belgian indie pop and rock band formed in Ghent, built around the songwriting partnership of Maarten Devoldere and Jinte Deprez, who share lead vocal duties, alongside Simon Casier, Tijs Delbeke and Michiel Balcaen. Since emerging in the mid-2000s the group has become one of the most acclaimed acts in Belgium's alternative scene, known for moody, atmospheric songwriting that draws on indie rock, soul and electronic textures.

The band's sound is marked by the interplay between Devoldere's and Deprez's contrasting voices and songwriting sensibilities, layered over understated arrangements that range from stripped-back guitar balladry to more rhythmic, groove-driven electronic production. Songs such as «Fever» and «Blood Like Wine» showcase this blend of introspective lyricism and sophisticated, textured production.

Balthazar has built a reputation as a genuinely bilingual European act, performing and recording primarily in English while remaining rooted in the Belgian and broader European indie circuit.
