Azer Bülbül

Azer Bülbül (1966–2006) was a Turkish singer closely associated with arabesk, the melodramatic, string-heavy genre rooted in Anatolian folk and Middle Eastern makam traditions that speaks to themes of poverty, love, fate, and heartbreak. Born in Adana, he built his career through the 1990s and 2000s with a raw, emotionally direct vocal style and lyrics that resonated with working-class audiences across Turkey.

His catalog blended classic arabesk balladry with lighter, dance-inflected pop and occasional rap-tinged tracks, giving him a broader reach than many of his arabesk contemporaries.
