Atomic Kitten

Atomic Kitten are a British girl group formed in Liverpool in 1998 by Andy McCluskey of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, who wrote and produced much of their early material. The original line-up paired Kerry Katona and Liz McClarnon with a third member who was soon replaced by Natasha Hamilton. Their sound sits squarely in early-2000s pop: glossy, radio-friendly hooks built for the singles chart rather than albums as artistic statements.

After Katona left the group in 2001, former Precious singer Jenny Frost joined, and the retooled trio scored their signature hit «Whole Again», a four-week UK number one and one of the best-selling singles of the decade. The re-released debut album Right Now, featuring Frost's vocals on several tracks, also topped the UK chart. Further hits followed, including «Eternal Flame», a cover of The Bangles song, and «The Tide Is High», a cover of the Blondie/John Holt classic recorded for the Kevin & Perry Go Large soundtrack.

Through albums like Feels So Good and Ladies Night, Atomic Kitten remained a fixture of British pop before pausing after their 2004 tour. «Southgate You're the One» later reappeared as a football terrace anthem, an odd afterlife typical of the group's catchy, era-defining pop.
