Ashton Irwin

Ashton Irwin (born July 7, 1994) is an Australian musician best known as the drummer, backing vocalist, and occasional songwriter of the pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer, which he joined shortly after its formation in Sydney and helped propel to global success with hits like «She Looks So Perfect». Within the band, Irwin has often been credited as a driving creative force behind their evolving sound, pushing the group from pop-punk beginnings toward more mature, guitar-driven territory on later records.

In 2020 Irwin stepped out as a solo artist with the album Superbloom, led by the single «Skinny Skinny». The record marked a deliberate departure from 5SOS's radio-friendly pop-rock, leaning into raw, alternative and grunge-inflected songwriting that drew comparisons to 90s alt-rock touchstones. Tracks such as «Have U Found What Ur Looking For?» and «Perfect Lie» showcased a more introspective, emotionally direct side of his songwriting.
