Apparat

Apparat is the recording name of German musician Sascha Ring, who has been active since the early 2000s as one of the defining figures of the Berlin electronic music scene. He began within a dancefloor-oriented techno framework but steadily moved his sound toward more ambient, glitch-inflected, and emotionally textured territory, blending organic instrumentation with digital production in a way that set him apart from strictly club-focused peers.

Over the years Apparat built a body of work marked by melancholic melodies, layered vocals, and a careful balance between song craft and sound design. He is also known as one third of Moderat, the collaborative project with Modeselektor, which brought his songwriting sensibility to a wider international audience through joint albums and extensive touring.

Beyond his solo catalogue and Moderat work, Apparat has contributed music to film and television, including work associated with the Netflix series Dark, which introduced his sound to new listeners outside the electronic music world. His catalogue spans club-ready tracks and more introspective, cinematic pieces, reflecting a restless artist unwilling to stay within one genre.
