About the artist
Anouk, born Anouk Teeuwe, is a Dutch singer-songwriter from Rotterdam who has been one of the most consistently popular recording artists in the Netherlands since the mid-1990s. She first broke through with her debut album Together Alone, whose single «Nobody’s Wife» became a European hit, reaching the top ten in several countries and establishing her as a rare Dutch act with genuine international crossover appeal.
Over a career spanning pop, rock and blues-inflected material, Anouk has released a long string of albums that have topped the Dutch charts, with singles such as «Lost», «Girl» and «Modern World» cementing her presence on national radio. Her sound blends confessional, often raw lyricism with polished pop-rock production, and she has been recognised in the Netherlands as one of its best female vocalists.
Her 2009 album For Bitter Or Worse, written in the wake of her divorce, is often cited as one of her most personal releases, and songs like «Birds» brought her to a wider European audience through the Eurovision Song Contest. Anouk remains a fixture of Dutch popular music, respected both as a performer and as a producer of her own work.
