About the artist
Anna of the North is the stage name of Anna Lotterud, a Norwegian electropop artist from Gjøvik. She rose to prominence after meeting New Zealand producer Brady Daniell-Smith in Melbourne, where the two began writing together and released the breakout single «Sway» in 2014, an internet hit that brought record deals with +1 Records/Honeymoon in the US and Different Recordings in the UK.
Her sound sits within dream pop and electropop, characterized by soft, breathy vocals, warm synth textures and hazy, melancholic-yet-comforting atmospheres. Following «Sway», she and Daniell-Smith released a string of widely streamed songs including «Dreamer», «Baby» and «Us» in 2016, cementing her place among the wave of introspective, bedroom-adjacent electropop artists of the mid-2010s.
Anna has spoken about drawing inspiration from sleep deprivation, describing how exhaustion leads her to hum melodies she then records — a fittingly dreamlike origin for music often described as cool to the touch yet warm in feeling. Tracks like «Lovers» and «My Love» continue that intimate, diary-like songwriting within lush, atmospheric production.
