Animaniacs

Animaniacs is an American animated comedy series created by Tom Ruegger and produced by Amblin Entertainment with Warner Bros. Animation, part of the wave of ambitious, adult-aware cartoons that emerged during the late-1980s and 1990s animation renaissance. The show first aired on Fox Kids from 1993 to 1995 before moving to The WB’s Kids’ WB block through 1998, running for 99 episodes plus the feature film «Wakko’s Wish».

Structured as a variety show, Animaniacs had no fixed format, typically packaging three short cartoons per episode around a rotating cast of characters, most famously the Warner siblings Yakko, Wakko and Dot, alongside recurring segments like Pinky and the Brain. The series was distinguished by dense pop-culture references, rapid-fire wordplay, memorable musical numbers such as «Yakko’s World», and humor pitched simultaneously at children and adults.

Its songs became a hallmark in their own right, valued for cramming educational or absurd content into catchy, fast-paced tunes, and the show is widely regarded as a landmark of 1990s television animation for its writing quality and genre-bending style, influencing the modern-audience-aware animated comedy that followed it, including its own 2020s revival series.
