About the artist
Anggun is an Indonesian-born, French-naturalised singer-songwriter who began her career as a teenage pop and rock star in Indonesia during the early 1990s before relocating to Europe in search of an international audience. Working with French producer Erick Benzi, she reinvented herself with a fusion of Western pop and Asian-inflected melody, and her breakthrough single «Snow on the Sahara» became a worldwide hit, reaching number one in several countries and establishing her as one of the best-known Asian artists on the international pop scene.
Her sound blends soulful, breathy vocals with electronic and rock textures, often carrying introspective, spiritually tinged lyrics that reflect her multicultural background. She has recorded in English, French and Indonesian, moving fluidly between languages and markets, and later gained wider global recognition as a judge on «Asia's Got Talent».
Anggun remains a rare example of an Asian artist who achieved sustained chart success in Europe and beyond, paving the way for others while continuing to record in her native Indonesia alongside her international releases.
