About the artist
Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness is the solo project of American singer-songwriter Andrew McMahon, who first rose to prominence as the frontman of the pop-punk band Something Corporate and later led the piano-driven rock band Jack's Mannequin. After Jack's Mannequin disbanded in 2012, McMahon released a brief EP under his own name before adopting the «in the Wilderness» moniker for his ongoing solo work.
His music under this project leans into bright, synth-inflected pop-rock built around piano melodies, a natural evolution of the sound he developed with Jack's Mannequin but with a more polished, radio-friendly sheen. The self-titled debut album introduced tracks like «Cecilia and the Satellite» and «Canyon Moon», while his follow-up releases continued exploring themes of family, mortality, and resilience, informed in part by his own public battle with leukemia earlier in his career.
Songs such as «High Dive», «Fire Escape», and «Ohio» showcase his knack for anthemic hooks paired with personal, often autobiographical songwriting, and he has maintained an active touring presence across the US in support of his releases.
