Ana Tijoux

Ana Tijoux is a Chilean rapper, singer and songwriter born in Lille, France in 1977 to Chilean exiles, before her family returned to Chile. She first gained recognition as the female MC of the hip-hop group Makiza in the late 1990s, becoming one of the most respected voices in Latin American rap. Her solo career took off internationally with the 2009 album «1977», whose title track earned wide acclaim and a Grammy nomination.

Tijoux's music blends boom-bap and jazz-inflected hip-hop with Latin American rhythms, and her lyrics are consistently political and socially engaged, addressing feminism, inequality, and resistance. Songs like «Antipatriarca» from her 2014 album «Vengo» became anthems of Latin American feminist movements, while «Somos Sur», featuring Palestinian rapper Shadia Mansour, extended her solidarity politics to a global stage. Her track «#CACEROLAZO» directly engaged with Chile's 2011 student protest movement.

Widely regarded as one of the leading MCs in Latin American hip-hop, Tijoux has built a career defined by uncompromising social commentary paired with musically adventurous production, working across Chile, Latin America, Europe and the United States.
