Amaarae

Amaarae (Ama Serwah Genfi) is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter and producer born in New York and raised between the US, UK and Ghana. Her music fuses R&B, alté, afrobeats, afro-punk and alternative pop, delivered through an airy, high-pitched falsetto that has become one of her defining sonic signatures. She first drew attention with her debut EP Passionfruit Summers and the single «Fluid», establishing her as a distinctive voice in the West African alternative scene.

Her 2020 debut album THE ANGEL YOU DON'T KNOW included «Sad Girlz Luv Money», which became a global breakout hit after a remix featuring Moliy and Kali Uchis pushed it onto international charts in 2021, introducing her genre-blending sound to a much wider audience. She followed this with the acclaimed 2023 album Fountain Baby, which further expanded her fusion of Ghanaian and Nigerian influences with West Coast hip-hop and rock textures.

Beyond her music, Amaarae is recognized for pushing boundaries around gender, sexuality and race in African pop culture, as well as for her bold fashion sensibility, which earned her a feature in Vogue. In 2025 she released her third studio album, BLACK STAR, whose title plays on the black star at the center of Ghana's flag and her own rising stardom as a Black artist reshaping the sound of contemporary African pop.
