Алсу (Alsou)

Alsou (born Alsou Ralifovna Safina in 1983 in Bugulma, Tatarstan, then part of the Soviet Union) is a Russian-Tatar pop singer and television host who became one of the most recognizable faces of Russian pop music in the early 2000s. She rose to international attention representing Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2000, where she finished in second place with the song «Solo», an achievement that remains one of the strongest Russian results in the contest's history. She has been honored as a Merited Artist and later People's Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, and was named a UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2011.

Alsou's sound blends melodic, radio-friendly pop with occasional ballad and adult-contemporary textures, sung in both Russian and English. Her repertoire ranges from romantic love songs such as «Зимний сон» and «Весна» to more dramatic, emotionally charged tracks like «Табу» and «Чужая». Beyond music, she built a prominent career as a television presenter and public figure in Russia, which broadened her cultural visibility beyond the recording studio.

Her work sits at the crossroads of Tatar heritage and mainstream Russian pop, and her Eurovision success helped open doors for Russian artists on the European stage.
