Alice Merton

Alice Merton is a German-Canadian singer-songwriter, born September 13, 1993, in Frankfurt, Germany, to a German mother and an Irish father; growing up she also lived in England, Germany, and Canada, which shaped her international outlook. She broke through internationally with her 2016 single «No Roots», an anthemic, driving pop-rock track about growing up without a fixed home that became a global hit and topped charts in several European countries.

Her debut EP, also titled No Roots, was released in February 2017 and reissued in 2018 with the addition of the follow-up single «Lash Out». She built on this momentum with her debut studio album, MINT, released January 18, 2019, preceded by singles «Why So Serious» and «Funny Business», which further defined her sound: punchy rhythms, distorted guitar and bass lines, and blunt, confident lyrics blending pop, rock, and electronic elements.

Merton's music is characterized by a restless, genre-blending energy and themes of independence, identity, and displacement, reflecting her own multicultural upbringing. Since her breakout she has continued to release music exploring similar territory, cementing her reputation as an artist who fuses rock attitude with pop accessibility and electronic production.
