Ali Azmat

Ali Azmat is a Pakistani singer-songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of Junoon, the band that helped pioneer the Sufi rock movement in South Asia by blending Western rock instrumentation with mystic Sufi poetry and local folk melodies. Junoon became one of the most commercially successful and politically outspoken bands in Pakistani music history, and Azmat's powerful, gritty voice became one of its defining features.

After Junoon's period of greatest activity, Azmat launched a solo career, moving into a harder rock and alternative sound while still drawing on the spiritual and social themes that marked his work with the band. His solo material broadened his audience beyond the Sufi rock label and showed his range as a performer and lyricist.

Beyond music, Azmat has also worked as an actor and television personality, keeping him in the public eye in Pakistan long after Junoon's commercial peak. He remains a respected figure in Pakistani rock, credited with helping bring the genre to mainstream and international audiences.
