About the artist
Alborosie, born Alberto D'Ascola in 1977 in Marsala, Sicily, is an Italian reggae singer, songwriter, and producer who became one of the most respected non-Jamaican voices in roots reggae. He discovered reggae and the Rastafari movement as a teenager and cut his teeth performing with the Italian reggae band Reggae National Tickets under the stage name Stena before relocating to Jamaica, where he immersed himself in the island's musical culture and built his own studio, Shengen Studio, in Kingston.
His debut solo album, «Soul Pirate», released in 2008, established him as an artist capable of channeling classic roots reggae and dub with an authenticity that earned him respect among Jamaican musicians and audiences alike. Since then he has released a steady stream of albums blending reggae, dancehall, and dub with occasional forays into rock and hip-hop influenced production, often handling songwriting, instrumentation, and production duties himself.
Known for songs such as «Kingston Town», «Herbalist», and «Natural Mystic», Alborosie has built a career on bridging European and Jamaican reggae traditions, becoming a bridge figure who helped popularize the genre with new international audiences while staying rooted in traditional Rastafari themes and Jamaican patois delivery.
