Air Supply

Air Supply are an Australian soft rock duo formed in Melbourne in 1975 by vocalist Russell Hitchcock and guitarist-songwriter Graham Russell, who met while performing in a stage production of «Jesus Christ Superstar». After early Australian success with singles like «Love and Other Bruises», the pair broke through internationally in the early 1980s, becoming one of the defining acts of the soft rock and adult contemporary sound with a run of lush, string-laden ballads built around Hitchcock's soaring tenor and Russell's romantic songwriting.

Between 1980 and 1985, Air Supply scored a remarkable string of hits including «Lost in Love», «All Out of Love», «The One That You Love», «Every Woman in the World», and «Making Love Out of Nothing at All» (the latter written by Jim Steinman), placing them consistently atop the US and international charts. Their sound — sweeping melodies, close vocal harmonies, and emotionally direct love-song lyrics — became a template for the era's soft rock radio format.

Though their commercial peak subsided by the mid-1980s, Air Supply has continued touring and recording for decades, remaining a fixture of adult contemporary and easy listening playlists worldwide. Their catalogue of ballads about longing and devotion has left a lasting mark on the soft rock genre.
