Agir

Agir is the stage name of Bernardo Costa, a Portuguese singer, songwriter and producer born on 18 March 1988 in Lisbon. He comes from an artistic family: his father is singer Paulo de Carvalho and his mother actress Helena Isabel. He began writing and recording his own material at the age of twelve and later spent a year working as a DJ at the Lisbon club Absolut, an experience that shaped the electronic and dance-pop textures still audible in his production work today.

His first public exposure came through the duo TribUrbana, formed with Milene Candeias, which represented Portugal at the 2007 Festival RTP da Canção with «Dá-me a Lua», finishing in fourth place. Agir released his solo debut album, «Agir», in 2010, which reportedly sold out in several stores within days of release. The follow-up, «Leva-me a Sério», brought wider recognition through singles such as «Tempo É Dinheiro», «Parte-me o Pescoço» and «Como Ela É Bela», the last accompanied by an innovative 360-degree music video, and the success was crowned with the Best Portuguese Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Beyond his own catalogue, Agir has built a reputation as a sought-after collaborator and producer within Portuguese pop, working with artists including Mariza, Carolina Deslandes, Ana Moura and Diogo Piçarra, and contributing to his father's album «Do Amor».
