After the Fire

After the Fire were a British band formed in the 1970s, initially rooted in progressive rock in the vein of early Genesis and Yes before shifting toward the new wave sound that defined their most recognized work. Their early releases, including the album Signs Of Change, reflected their progressive origins before the group embraced a more synth-driven, new wave direction.

The band is best remembered internationally for their cover of Falco's «Der Kommissar», an English-language version that became a hit and remains their signature song. Other tracks such as «1980-F», «Joy», «Take Me Higher» and «Dancing In The Shadows» capture the group's transition through several stylistic phases across the late 1970s and early 1980s, spanning albums like Laser Love and 80-f.

After the Fire also toured with major acts of the era, including Electric Light Orchestra, Queen and Van Halen, which helped raise their profile beyond the UK charts. Songs such as «Carry Me Home» and «Starflight» round out a catalog that documents the band's journey from progressive rock roots to new wave prominence.
