About the artist
Adriana Caselotti was an American actress and soprano singer, remembered almost exclusively for one role: she provided the singing and speaking voice of Snow White in Walt Disney's 1937 animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length cel-animated film in movie history. Her light, girlish soprano defined songs such as «Someday My Prince Will Come», «I'm Wishing», «One Song», and «Whistle While You Work», which became some of the most recognizable tunes of the early Disney songbook.
Caselotti was hired at a young age after Walt Disney personally auditioned dozens of singers seeking a voice that sounded youthful and untrained rather than professionally operatic. Her performance helped set the template for the Disney princess archetype that would follow for decades, blending musical theater phrasing with a warm, innocent tone suited to animation.
Despite the enormous and lasting popularity of the film, Caselotti's career was constrained by her Disney contract, which limited her ability to take on other prominent film or voice roles for many years, including further Disney projects. She nonetheless remains a foundational figure in the history of film musicals and animated soundtracks, her voice permanently tied to one of cinema's most influential works.
