About the artist
Adriana Calcanhotto is a Brazilian singer-songwriter from Porto Alegre, one of the most respected voices in contemporary MPB (Música Popular Brasileira). She began performing in bars and theatrical productions before touring festivals across the country with a voice-and-guitar format. Her 1990 debut album, «Enguiço», released on CBS, brought immediate critical acclaim, mixing original compositions with reinterpretations of Brazilian classics.
Calcanhotto's style blends the melodic sophistication of MPB with elements of pop and rock, and she has often been compared to Elis Regina for her interpretive depth and vocal phrasing. Songs such as «Fico Assim Sem Você», «Esquadros» and «Metade» became staples of her repertoire and helped cement her reputation as both a gifted composer and interpreter of others' work.
Beyond her adult-oriented output, she also created children's albums under the alter ego Adriana Partimpim, showing the range of her artistic ambitions. Across a long career she has remained a key figure bridging traditional Brazilian songwriting with modern sensibilities.
