Adamo

Adamo, born Salvatore Adamo in Comiso, Sicily, in 1943, is a Belgian singer-songwriter whose family emigrated to Belgium when he was a child, settling in a mining region of Wallonia. He rose to fame in the 1960s as a francophone pop and chanson artist, becoming one of the best-selling Belgian musicians of all time and a major star across France, Belgium, Italy and beyond.

Adamo's music blends tender, melodic pop with the lyrical tradition of French chanson, often marked by romantic and melancholic themes delivered in a warm, expressive voice. Beyond French, he recorded in several other languages including Italian, Dutch, English, German, Spanish, Japanese and Turkish, extending his reach well past the francophone world. His enduring hits include «Tombe la neige», one of the most iconic French-language songs of the era, along with «Inch’Allah», «Vous permettez monsieur», «Ton nom» and «Quand passent les gitans».

Over a career spanning decades, Adamo has remained a defining figure of Belgian and francophone popular music, recognized for his gentle balladry and cross-cultural appeal. In recognition of his artistic legacy, Belgium granted him the noble title of Ridder (Knight) in 2001.
