About the artist
Ace of Base are a Swedish pop group that emerged from Gothenburg in the early 1990s, built around producers Ulf «Buddha» Ekberg and Jonas «Joker» Berggren alongside singers Malin «Linn» Berggren and Jenny Berggren, the latter two siblings of Jonas. The group's breakout came with «Wheel of Fortune», a Scandinavian hit that connected them with producer Denniz Pop.
Their 1992 debut album, Happy Nation, became an international phenomenon and was reissued for the US market in 1993 as The Sign. Songs like «All That She Wants», «Don't Turn Around», and «The Sign» itself — which topped the US charts for six weeks — turned Ace of Base into one of the defining pop acts of the era, known for reggae-tinged, dance-driven melodies layered over synth-pop production.
The group followed up with The Bridge in 1995, sustaining their international success, and continued releasing music including «Beautiful Life» and «Life Is a Flower» through the following years. Their sound — sunny, rhythmic, and instantly hook-laden — made them one of Sweden's most commercially successful pop exports, standing alongside acts shaped by the same Swedish production scene that would later influence global pop.
