Abdel Baset Hamouda is a prominent Egyptian shaabi singer, one of the genre's most beloved voices since the 1990s. He was born in the village of Hawarin in the Berket El Sab district of Monufia Governorate, in Egypt's Nile Delta, and grew up in a working-class neighborhood where popular songs drifted constantly from cafes and small shops. That environment shaped his musical ear long before any formal training, and he began performing at weddings and local celebrations, absorbing the melodic patterns and colloquial storytelling that define shaabi music.

His sound blends the raw, festive energy of Egyptian street music with accessible, often humorous or romantic lyrics delivered in everyday Egyptian Arabic. Hamouda's voice became a fixture of Egyptian popular culture through songs such as «Ana Mesh Arefny», «El Gaw Hady», and «Kolak Agebny», which spread widely through cassette culture and later television and satellite channels, cementing his reputation well beyond Monufia.
