About the artist
A.B. Quintanilla III, born Abraham Isaac Quintanilla III, is an American musician, record producer, songwriter, and bassist, best known as the older brother of the late Tejano superstar Selena. Raised in a musical family in Texas, he became a founding member and driving creative force of Selena y Los Dinos, the family band formed in 1980 that would launch Selena to stardom, contributing bass playing, production, and songwriting to hits such as «Como La Flor», «Amor Prohibido», and «No Me Queda Más».
Beyond his work with Selena, A.B. Quintanilla has had a prolific career producing and writing across Tejano, cumbia, and Latin pop, later leading the group Kumbia Kings, which helped popularize a modern, radio-friendly take on cumbia across Latin America and the U.S. Latino market. His songwriting and production style blends traditional Tejano and cumbia rhythms with pop sensibilities, contributing to crossover hits and dance-driven arrangements.
Songs associated with his broader catalog, such as «Fuiste Mala», «Sabes A Chocolate», and «No Tengo Dinero», reflect his versatility across romantic ballads and upbeat dance tracks. As both a family patriarch of Tejano music history and an active producer, A.B. Quintanilla remains a significant figure bridging the legacy of Selena with contemporary Latin music.
