A Flock of Seagulls

A Flock of Seagulls are an English new wave band formed in Liverpool in 1980 by brothers Mike Score and Ali Score. The group became one of the defining acts of the early-1980s synth-driven new wave movement, blending angular guitars with prominent synthesizers and Mike Score's distinctive, gravity-defying hairstyle, which turned into a visual shorthand for the era's MTV aesthetic.

Their self-titled 1982 debut album broke internationally on the strength of «I Ran (So Far Away)», a shimmering, urgent single that became a defining new wave anthem and a staple of 1980s retrospectives and film soundtracks. Follow-up singles «Space Age Love Song» and «Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)» extended their run of atmospheric, romantically wistful hits built around chiming guitar lines and layered synth textures.

Though their commercial peak was brief, A Flock of Seagulls left a lasting mark on new wave and synth-pop, influencing later electronic and alternative acts drawn to their combination of melodic hooks and futuristic production. The band continued to tour and record in various lineups long after their chart heyday, with Mike Score remaining the group's constant creative anchor.
