Sobre o artista
Wu-Tang Clan é um coletivo de hip-hop de Staten Island, Nova York, formado em 1992 por RZA, GZA, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God e Masta Killa. Com o álbum de estreia de 1993, «Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)», o grupo reinventou o conceito de crew de rap, apoiado na produção crua e repleta de samples de RZA, inspirada em discos de soul e filmes de artes marciais.
Em vez de funcionar como um grupo convencional, o Wu-Tang foi concebido como uma plataforma para carreiras individuais: os integrantes lançaram álbuns solo aclamados — como «Liquid Swords», de GZA, e «Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...», de Raekwon — sob um acordo que permitia a RZA manter o controle criativo dos lançamentos do grupo enquanto cada um assinava contratos por conta própria. Essa estratégia transformou o Clan simultaneamente em um grupo e em uma extensa família de artistas afiliados, conhecida como Wu-Tang Killa Beez.
Liricamente, o Clan se destaca por trocadilhos densos, imagens de xadrez e kung-fu, e um elenco de alguns dos MCs tecnicamente mais habilidosos do gênero, com GZA e RZA frequentemente citados entre os letristas mais complexos do hip-hop. Faixas como «C.R.E.A.M.», «Protect Ya Neck» e «Triumph» seguem sendo referências do hip-hop da Costa Leste dos anos 1990.
