Sobre el artista
Wu-Tang Clan es un colectivo de hip-hop de Staten Island, Nueva York, formado en 1992 por RZA, GZA, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God y Masta Killa. Con su álbum debut de 1993, «Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)», el grupo reinventó el concepto de crew de rap, apoyándose en la producción cruda y llena de samples de RZA, inspirada en discos soul y películas de artes marciales.
En lugar de funcionar como un grupo convencional, Wu-Tang fue pensado como plataforma de lanzamiento de carreras individuales: sus miembros publicaron álbumes en solitario aclamados por la crítica —como «Liquid Swords» de GZA o «Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...» de Raekwon— bajo un acuerdo que permitía a RZA mantener el control creativo de los lanzamientos grupales mientras cada uno firmaba contratos por su cuenta. Esta estrategia convirtió al Clan en un grupo y, a la vez, en una extensa familia de artistas afiliados, conocida como Wu-Tang Killa Beez.
Líricamente, el Clan destaca por juegos de palabras densos, imágenes de ajedrez y kung-fu, y una alineación de algunos de los MC más hábiles técnicamente del género, con GZA y RZA citados a menudo entre los letristas más complejos del hip-hop. Temas como «C.R.E.A.M.», «Protect Ya Neck» y «Triumph» siguen siendo referencias del hip-hop de la Costa Este de los años noventa.
