Sobre o artista
T. Rex começou em 1967 como Tyrannosaurus Rex, uma dupla de folk psicodélico formada pelo cantor, compositor e guitarrista Marc Bolan e pelo percussionista Steve Took. As letras fantasiosas e caprichosas de Bolan, inspiradas em alta fantasia e mitologia, junto com o violão e a percussão manual, renderam ao grupo um público fiel no underground britânico e o apoio do DJ John Peel.
Após a saída de Took, substituído por Mickey Finn em 1969, a banda encurtou o nome para T. Rex e migrou para instrumentação elétrica, tornando-se uma das pioneiras do glam rock britânico. O carisma de Bolan, sua imagem brilhante e suas composições simplificadas e cativantes impulsionaram uma sequência de grandes sucessos no Reino Unido, incluindo «Ride a White Swan», «Hot Love», «Get It On (Bang a Gong)», «Jeepster» e «Children of the Revolution».
O sucesso do T. Rex provocou o fenômeno conhecido como «T. Rextasy» no Reino Unido no início dos anos 1970 e ajudou a estabelecer as bases do glam rock, mais tarde expandidas por artistas como David Bowie e Slade. Marc Bolan permaneceu a principal força criativa da banda ao longo de suas diversas formações até sua morte em 1977.
