Sobre el artista
T. Rex comenzó en 1967 como Tyrannosaurus Rex, un dúo de folk psicodélico formado por el cantautor y guitarrista Marc Bolan junto al percusionista Steve Took. Las letras caprichosas y de tono fantástico de Bolan, inspiradas en la alta fantasía y la mitología, junto con la guitarra acústica y la percusión manual, le valieron al grupo un público fiel en el underground británico y el apoyo del DJ John Peel.
Tras la salida de Took, reemplazado por Mickey Finn en 1969, la banda acortó su nombre a T. Rex y se pasó a instrumentación eléctrica, convirtiéndose en uno de los grupos pioneros del glam rock británico. El carisma de Bolan, su imagen brillante y sus composiciones simplificadas y pegadizas impulsaron una serie de grandes éxitos en el Reino Unido, entre ellos «Ride a White Swan», «Hot Love», «Get It On (Bang a Gong)», «Jeepster» y «Children of the Revolution».
El éxito de T. Rex provocó el fenómeno conocido como «T. Rextasy» en el Reino Unido a principios de los años setenta y ayudó a sentar las bases del glam rock, ampliadas después por artistas como David Bowie y Slade. Marc Bolan siguió siendo la fuerza creativa central de la banda, a través de sus distintas formaciones, hasta su muerte en 1977.
