Sobre o artista
Peter Gabriel, nascido em 13 de fevereiro de 1950 na Inglaterra, é cantor, compositor, produtor e ativista, que ganhou destaque como vocalista original do Genesis, liderando a fase teatral de rock progressivo da banda entre 1967 e 1975 em álbuns como «Trespass», «Nursery Cryme», «Foxtrot» e «The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway», conhecidos por figurinos elaborados e narrativa cênica.
Após deixar o Genesis, Gabriel iniciou uma carreira solo marcada por uma série de quatro álbuns homônimos, migrando gradualmente do experimentalismo art-rock para o worldbeat, texturas eletrônicas e composições socialmente engajadas. Seu álbum de 1980 trouxe o uso pioneiro do som de bateria com gated reverb, enquanto «So», de 1986, lhe rendeu sucesso mundial com singles como «Sledgehammer», «In Your Eyes», «Don't Give Up» (dueto com Kate Bush) e «Big Time».
Gabriel é há muito um pioneiro da world music, cofundador do festival WOMAD e do selo Real World Records, dando espaço a artistas fora do mainstream ocidental. Também é um ativista declarado de direitos humanos, com canções como «Biko» abordando a África do Sul do apartheid. Sua incansável fusão de rock, produção eletrônica e tradições musicais globais o tornou um dos artistas mais influentes e difíceis de classificar vindos da cena progressiva britânica.
