Sobre el artista
Peter Gabriel, nacido el 13 de febrero de 1950 en Inglaterra, es cantante, compositor, productor y activista, que saltó a la fama como vocalista original de Genesis, liderando la etapa teatral de rock progresivo de la banda entre 1967 y 1975 en álbumes como «Trespass», «Nursery Cryme», «Foxtrot» y «The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway», conocidos por sus elaborados vestuarios escénicos y narrativa.
Tras dejar Genesis, Gabriel inició una carrera en solitario marcada por una serie de cuatro álbumes homónimos, avanzando gradualmente del experimentalismo art-rock hacia el worldbeat, texturas electrónicas y una escritura socialmente comprometida. Su álbum de 1980 introdujo el innovador sonido de batería con gated reverb, mientras que «So», de 1986, le trajo éxito mundial con sencillos como «Sledgehammer», «In Your Eyes», «Don't Give Up» (a dúo con Kate Bush) y «Big Time».
Gabriel ha sido durante mucho tiempo un pionero de la world music, cofundador del festival WOMAD y del sello Real World Records, para dar voz a artistas fuera del mainstream occidental. También ha sido un activista de derechos humanos declarado, con canciones como «Biko» que abordan la Sudáfrica del apartheid. Su incansable fusión de rock, producción electrónica y tradiciones musicales globales lo convirtió en uno de los artistas más influyentes y difíciles de encasillar surgidos de la escena progresiva británica.
