Modest Mouse é uma banda americana de indie rock formada em 1992 em Issaquah, Washington, em torno do vocalista, guitarrista e letrista Isaac Brock. O grupo surgiu da cena indie do noroeste do Pacífico dos anos 1990, lançando discos por selos como Up Records e K Records, e desenvolveu um som de guitarras nervosas e angulares combinado com o vocal peculiar e quase gritado de Brock. Álbuns iniciais como «This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About» e «The Lonesome Crowded West» conquistaram uma base fiel de fãs antes da assinatura com uma gravadora major.
O grande salto comercial veio com «Good News for People Who Love Bad News», de 2004, que trouxe o hit «Float On» e levou a banda ao mainstream sem perder sua escrita inquieta e particular. A formação mudou bastante ao longo das décadas, sendo Isaac Brock o único membro constante; em um período notável, o lendário guitarrista do The Smiths, Johnny Marr, integrou a banda, participando do álbum «We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank».
