Modest Mouse es una banda estadounidense de indie rock formada en 1992 en Issaquah, Washington, en torno al cantante, guitarrista y letrista Isaac Brock. El grupo surgió de la escena indie del noroeste del Pacífico de los años noventa, publicando en sellos como Up Records y K Records, y desarrolló un sonido de guitarras nerviosas y angulares junto a la voz peculiar y casi gritada de Brock. Discos tempranos como «This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About» y «The Lonesome Crowded West» le dieron una base de seguidores fiel antes de firmar con una discográfica mayor.
El gran salto comercial llegó con «Good News for People Who Love Bad News» de 2004, que incluyó el éxito «Float On» y llevó a Modest Mouse al mainstream sin perder su escritura inquieta y particular. La alineación ha cambiado mucho con los años, siendo Isaac Brock el único miembro constante; en una etapa notable se sumó el legendario guitarrista de The Smiths, Johnny Marr, participando en el álbum «We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank».
