Manic Street Preachers é uma banda de rock galesa formada em 1986 em Blackwood, no País de Gales, originalmente um quarteto formado por James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire, Richey Edwards e Sean Moore. Surgiram dos vales galeses do final dos anos 1980 com um som ferozmente político, misturando glam e punk, e uma reputação de shows incendiários e declarações provocadoras, posicionando-se contra o britpop dominante do início dos anos 1990.
Seus primeiros álbuns conquistaram um público cult, mas foi o cru e angustiante The Holy Bible (1994) que consolidou seu prestígio crítico. Em fevereiro de 1995, o guitarrista e letrista Richey Edwards desapareceu e nunca foi encontrado; a banda seguiu como trio, com Nicky Wire assumindo o papel de letrista principal. O álbum seguinte, Everything Must Go (1996), marcou uma guinada dramática para um som orquestral e hinário, tornando-se seu grande sucesso comercial com faixas como «A Design for Life» e «If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next».
Nas décadas seguintes a banda continuou evoluindo sem perder sua escrita literária e socialmente engajada, explorando temas de história, classe e memória em álbuns como This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours e Journal for Plague Lovers, este último construído a partir de letras inéditas de Edwards. Manic Street Preachers permanece uma das bandas mais duradouras e respeitadas da cena alternativa britânica dos anos 90.
