Sobre el artista
Manic Street Preachers es una banda de rock galesa formada en 1986 en Blackwood, Gales, originalmente un cuarteto integrado por James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire, Richey Edwards y Sean Moore. Surgieron de los valles galeses de finales de los 80 con un sonido ferozmente político que mezclaba glam y punk, y una reputación de conciertos incendiarios y declaraciones provocadoras, situándose en contraposición al britpop dominante de principios de los 90.
Sus primeros álbumes les granjearon un público de culto, pero fue el crudo y desgarrador The Holy Bible (1994) el que consolidó su prestigio crítico. En febrero de 1995, el guitarrista y letrista Richey Edwards desapareció y nunca fue encontrado; la banda continuó como trío, con Nicky Wire asumiendo el papel de letrista principal. El siguiente álbum, Everything Must Go (1996), marcó un giro dramático hacia un sonido orquestal y anthémico, convirtiéndose en su gran éxito comercial gracias a temas como «A Design for Life» e «If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next».
En las décadas siguientes la banda ha seguido evolucionando sin perder su composición literaria y comprometida socialmente, explorando temas de historia, clase y memoria en álbumes como This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours y Journal for Plague Lovers, este último construido a partir de letras inéditas de Edwards. Manic Street Preachers siguen siendo una de las bandas más perdurables y respetadas de la escena alternativa británica de los 90.
