¿De qué trata "Hello Earth"?

«Hello Earth» es la penúltima pista del álbum de Kate Bush «Hounds of Love» (1985), que cierra la suite conceptual «The Ninth Wave» sobre una mujer a la deriva en el mar. La canción cambia de perspectiva hacia una visión de la Tierra desde el espacio, inspirada en parte por comunicaciones reales de la NASA (el diálogo muestreado del astronauta Dan Brandenstein) y por la película «Solaris» de Andrei Tarkovsky, además de la experiencia de Bush observando una tormenta desde la ventanilla de un avión. La letra contrasta la perspectiva diminuta e indefensa de la protagonista que se ahoga con la mirada vasta y distante desde el espacio, transmitiendo culpa e impotencia ante un desastre que no se puede detener. El outro cantado en alemán se basa en una melodía de raíz folclórica y funciona como una nana-conjuro, dando al tema un cierre fantasmal y apaciguador («Go to sleep, little Earth»). Se la considera una de las composiciones más atmosféricas y emocionalmente potentes de Bush.
