Swans es una banda estadounidense de rock experimental formada en Nueva York en 1982, liderada a lo largo de toda su historia por el cantante, guitarrista y compositor principal Michael Gira. Surgida del underground no-wave e industrial de la ciudad, la banda se ganó pronto una reputación por su volumen castigador y su ruido abrasivo, con sus primeros álbumes, entre ellos «Filth», buscando ofrecer uno de los sonidos más ásperos imaginables en directo.
A lo largo de las décadas siguientes, Swans se reinventó repetidamente, pasando de la intensidad de tintes góticos de «Children of God» a un terreno más melódico y atmosférico en álbumes como «White Light from the Mouth of Infinity», hasta culminar en los expansivos paisajes sonoros de post-rock y bucles de cinta de «Soundtracks for the Blind», considerado por muchos su cúspide creativa. La banda se disolvió durante un tiempo antes de que Gira reactivara el proyecto, lo que llevó a un celebrado resurgimiento en la década de 2010 con composiciones densas, hipnóticas y de duración épica.
Con más de treinta músicos que han pasado por sus filas en casi cuatro décadas, Swans se erige como uno de los actos más intransigentes e influyentes del rock experimental y noise, admirados por negarse a asentarse en un único sonido y por la incansable dirección creativa de Gira en cada etapa distinta.
