Pete Seeger (3 de mayo de 1919 – 27 de enero de 2014) fue un cantante folk, banjista y activista estadounidense nacido en Nueva York en el seno de una familia de músicos; su padre, Charles Seeger, fue un destacado musicólogo. Protegido de Woody Guthrie, Seeger se convirtió en una de las figuras centrales del folk estadounidense, tocando guitarra de 12 cuerdas y un banjo de cinco cuerdas de mástil largo diseñado por él mismo, cultivando un estilo cálido y participativo basado en cantos colectivos con el público.
Seeger fundó los Almanac Singers en 1940 y más tarde se unió a The Weavers en 1949, alcanzando popularidad masiva antes de que el grupo fuera incluido en listas negras durante el macartismo anticomunista de los años cincuenta, tras ser citados ante el Congreso. Reconstruyó su carrera en los años sesenta como artista solista y compositor, vinculándose estrechamente al Movimiento por los Derechos Civiles, al movimiento pacifista y a causas ambientales, popularizando canciones como «We Shall Overcome», «If I Had a Hammer», «Where Have All the Flowers Gone?», «Guantanamera» y «Which Side Are You On?».
La influencia de Seeger se extendió tanto por el folk como por la música popular, inspirando a generaciones de cantautores con su combinación de canciones de protesta, música infantil y material tradicional.
