Toni Braxton

Toni Braxton, born October 7, 1967, is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist celebrated for her deep contralto voice and dramatic, torch-song approach to R&B. She began her career singing with her sisters in a family group called The Braxtons before being discovered and mentored by Antonio «L.A.» Reid and Kenneth «Babyface» Edmonds, who signed her to LaFace Records and shaped much of her early sound. Her breakthrough came with «Love Shoulda Brought You Home» from the Boomerang soundtrack, which set the stage for her multi-platinum self-titled debut album.

Braxton became one of the defining voices of 1990s R&B with her second album Secrets, anchored by the global hit «Un-Break My Heart», a sweeping ballad that showcased her rich lower register and cemented her as a leading interpreter of heartbreak anthems.
