Tinashe

Tinashe Jorgenson Kachingwe, known mononymously as Tinashe, is an American singer-songwriter born February 6, 1993, in Lexington, Kentucky, and raised in Los Angeles. Before pursuing music, she worked as a child actress, appearing on shows like Two and a Half Men, and began her music career in the girl group The Stunners, alongside future star Hayley Kiyoko, before going solo.

She built an early following through independently released mixtapes such as In Case We Die (2012), Reverie and Black Water, catching the attention of RCA Records. Her 2014 debut album Aquarius, led by the breakout single «2 On», established her signature blend of moody, atmospheric R&B with dance and electronic-pop production, earning critical praise for updating classic R&B textures with a distinctly 2010s sensibility.

Despite well-documented delays with major-label follow-ups, Tinashe has remained a consistently inventive presence in R&B, later embracing more independent releases that gave her greater creative control. Known for her strong dancing and self-directed visuals alongside her music, she has collaborated with a range of producers and artists across the pop, R&B and hip-hop worlds, and is regarded as an influential figure in the 2010s alt-R&B movement, with songs like «Nasty» and «No Broke Boys» marking a later commercial resurgence.
