The Blues Brothers

The Blues Brothers began as a comedic novelty act on «Saturday Night Live», created by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as an homage to classic blues and soul music. Performing in character as Jake and Elwood Blues — black suits, hats, and sunglasses — the duo assembled a genuine backing band of top session musicians and turned the joke into a functioning act that released real records and toured.

Their 1980 film «The Blues Brothers», directed by John Landis, became a cult classic and cemented the act's identity, built around covers of blues and R&B standards like «Everybody Needs Somebody to Love», «Sweet Home Chicago», and «Minnie the Moocher» performed alongside cameo appearances from soul legends such as James Brown, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin. The band's albums, including «Briefcase Full of Blues», introduced a mainstream audience to classic Chicago blues and Stax-style soul.

John Belushi's death in 1982 could have ended the project, but Dan Aykroyd continued it, with John Belushi's younger brother Jim Belushi eventually stepping into the Blues Brothers role. The band went on to record the sequel film «Blues Brothers 2000» and has continued touring over the years with a rotating lineup of musicians, keeping the tribute to American blues and soul music alive for new generations.
