Tevin Campbell

Tevin Campbell is an American R&B and pop singer born in 1971 in Waxahachie, Texas, who rose to fame as a teenage prodigy in the early 1990s. He first gained attention singing on Quincy Jones's «Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)» in 1989 and on Prince's «Round and Round» from the Graffiti Bridge soundtrack in 1990, collaborations that positioned him as a rare young voice trusted by two of the era's biggest names.

His 1991 debut album T.E.V.I.N. produced the number-one R&B hits «Tell Me What You Want Me to Do» and «Alone With You», earning platinum sales and a Grammy nomination. The follow-up, I'm Ready (1993), featured Babyface-produced singles «Can We Talk» and «I'm Ready», went double platinum, and brought further Grammy nominations, cementing Campbell as one of the defining new jack swing and R&B voices of his generation.

His smooth, agile tenor and youthful energy made him a natural fit for the era's polished R&B production. He continued releasing music through the late 1990s with Back to the World and a self-titled album, and later moved into musical theater, appearing in Broadway's Hairspray in 2005.
