About the artist
Tems, born Temilade Openiyi in Lagos, Nigeria, is a singer, songwriter, and producer whose music blends alternative R&B, neo-soul, and Afrobeats influences into a distinctive, moody sound built on her rich, textured voice. She emerged with self-produced tracks like «Try Me» and «Damages» before breaking through internationally with her feature on Wizkid’s «Essence», which brought her a Grammy nomination and helped push Afrobeats into the American mainstream.
Her collaborations extend across genres and continents, including work with Drake on «Fountains» and Future on «Wait for U», the latter earning her a Grammy Award. Solo releases such as «Free Mind», «Higher», and «Me & U» showcase her introspective songwriting and command of both slow-burning ballads and rhythmic, groove-driven tracks.
Drawing on influences from Destiny’s Child, Aaliyah, and Lil Wayne, Tems has become one of the most prominent voices in the new generation of West African artists reshaping global pop and R&B.
