SZA, born Solána Imani Rowe, is an American singer and songwriter who grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, after her family relocated from St. Louis, Missouri. As the honorary first lady of Top Dawg Entertainment, she rose through the label's Los Angeles-based hip-hop roster to become one of contemporary R&B's most distinctive voices, known for blending soulful melodies with loose, stream-of-consciousness songwriting and genre-crossing production that touches on alternative R&B, neo-soul and psychedelic pop. She began independently with the EPs See.SZA.Run and S before signing to TDE, where she released the EP Z and collaborated extensively with labelmates including Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock and Isaiah Rashad.
