About the artist
Sister Sledge were an American R&B and disco vocal group formed in Philadelphia by four sisters — Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy Sledge. They began recording in the early 1970s, releasing singles such as «Time Will Tell» and «Mama Never Told Me» before scoring their first entries on the Billboard charts.
The group reached international stardom in 1979 with the album We Are Family, produced by Chic members Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. The title track became a disco-era anthem and a staple of celebrations and sports events worldwide, while «He's the Greatest Dancer» also reached the top of the R&B charts and the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100.
Throughout the 1980s the group continued releasing albums such as Love Somebody Today and All American Girls, and later scored a European hit with «Frankie», which topped the UK singles chart. Sister Sledge remain remembered as one of the defining vocal groups of the disco era, admired for tight sibling harmonies and a joyful, uplifting sound.
