Sevdaliza

Sevdaliza is an Iranian-Dutch singer, songwriter and producer born in 1987 in Iran, who moved to the Netherlands as a child with her family. Before turning fully to music she played competitive basketball and studied at university, giving her an unconventional path into the industry compared to many of her peers. She emerged in the mid-2010s with a run of striking EPs before releasing her debut album ISON in 2017, establishing herself as one of the most distinctive voices in avant-garde pop.

Her sound blends trip hop, experimental electronic production and alternative R&B with atmospheric, minor-key textures, often drawing on her Persian heritage in both lyrics and instrumentation. Songs like «Human», «Marilyn Monroe» and «Sirens Of The Caspian» showcase her deep, resonant vocals set against sparse, cinematic beats, while the visual side of her work — self-directed videos and art projects — has become as central to her identity as the music itself.

Her 2020 album Shabrang expanded this world further, cementing her reputation as an artist who treats albums as full audiovisual statements. She has collaborated with and influenced a generation of boundary-pushing artists in electronic and alt-R&B circles, and remains a singular figure bridging Middle Eastern musical sensibility with cutting-edge European electronic production.
