Purity Ring

Purity Ring are a Canadian electronic duo from Edmonton, Alberta, formed by singer and lyricist Megan James and producer Corin Roddick. The pair met through earlier hometown bands before channeling their chemistry into a project built on lush, glitchy production and dreamlike, often body-and-nature-obsessed lyrics. Their sound blends trap-influenced beats, chopped vocal samples, and shimmering synth textures with James's airy, intimate delivery, placing them at the forefront of the early-2010s wave of alternative electronic pop alongside acts like Grimes and How to Dress Well.

Their 2012 debut album, Shrines, earned widespread critical acclaim for its inventive production and unusual, visceral imagery, featuring standout tracks like «Fineshrine» and «Obedear». They followed it with another eternity in 2015 and WOMB in 2020, each refining their signature mix of pop songcraft and experimental sound design. Corin Roddick also built custom light-up instruments for their live shows, turning performances into immersive audiovisual experiences.

Beyond their own catalog, Purity Ring have lent their sound to a wide range of collaborators, including Ab-Soul, Danny Brown, Katy Perry, and Jon Hopkins, underscoring their influence across both underground and mainstream electronic music.
