Mark Morrison

Mark Morrison is an English R&B singer best known for his 1996 single «Return of the Mack», a global smash that topped the UK charts and became a defining R&B/swingbeat hit of the era, later reaching the top of the US charts as well and going on to widespread sampling and covers in the decades since. The song anchored his debut album of the same name, which achieved multi-platinum sales and established him as one of the leading British R&B voices of the mid-1990s.

His sound drew on American new jack swing and R&B traditions filtered through a British urban pop sensibility, with a smooth, confident vocal delivery. Alongside «Return of the Mack», tracks like «Crazy» and «Trippin'» contributed to his run of chart success in the UK during that period.

Morrison's career was also marked by a series of legal troubles that disrupted his momentum through the late 1990s. In 1999 he signed to Suge Knight's Death Row Records, notably becoming the label's first European signing, before continuing to release music sporadically in the years that followed, including the 2014 release «I Am What I Am». Despite an uneven career trajectory, «Return of the Mack» remains a lasting fixture of 1990s pop and R&B.
