Mahalia

Mahalia Burkmar, known simply as Mahalia, is a British R&B and soul singer-songwriter from Leicester, England. Immersed in music from childhood, she signed to Asylum Records as a young teenager and released early EPs before gradually finding her voice as a writer and performer.

Her breakthrough came with the 2017 single «Sober», a stripped-back, emotionally direct track that gained wide attention after her performance on the COLORS platform. Her sound blends smooth, jazz-inflected R&B with contemporary pop and rap influences, marked by conversational, diary-like lyrics about relationships, self-respect and heartbreak.

Mahalia's biggest commercial success came with «Sober» and later collaborations, including «Simmer» featuring Burna Boy and «What You Did» with Ella Mai, which showcased her ability to blend British R&B sensibilities with international crossover appeal. Songs like «I Wish I Missed My Ex», «Grateful» and «No Pressure» further established her as one of the leading voices in the UK's new wave of R&B artists, known for candid songwriting delivered with a warm, understated vocal style.
